Happy Lee Van Cleef Day!

By dougm | April 9, 2008

April 9th is of course Lee Van Cleef Day at BurntFilm, and since we now have a blog we can share all things Van Cleef with our loyal and disloyal readers!

A formidable man and WWII veteran from Dirty Jersey who’s career spanned almost half a century, we salute Lee Van Cleef, Hollywood badass. The man who tangled with the likes of Mr. Lon Chaney himself in “High Noon”, chewed up screen in “Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il” (the good the bad and the ugly) with Clint Eastwood, Kung Fu’d your ass in prime time as “The Master” and kicked it with Kurt “Snake Pliskin” Russell in “Escape from New York” died on December 16th 1989 at 64, but lives on in our hearts and minds.
We know that somewhere in Old West Heaven Lee is giving someone that squinty eyed badass look, the look that says “I’m a fair man, and I’ll shoot you dead right here if you cross me.” A squinty eyed badass look rivaled only by the squinty eyed badass look of such greats as Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson and Robert Dinero.

And yes, you CAN shoot someone dead in Old West Heaven. If you couldn’t, well that wouldn’t be heaven at all, now would it?

In honor of Lee Van Cleef and in keeping with the traditions of BurntFilm, I leave you with this, a fine looking open shirt photo of Mr. Van Cleef, in all his badass glory. Thank you Lee, for kicking major ass.
